About Anhinga Trail
The Anhinga Trail is widely considered the best short walk in Everglades National Park and one of the finest wildlife viewing trails in all of Florida. This easy 0.8-mile paved and boardwalk trail winds through Taylor Slough, where visitors can observe alligators, anhingas, great blue herons, turtles, and fish at remarkably close range. Named after the anhinga bird that dries its wings in the sun after diving for fish, the trail offers unparalleled photo opportunities. The trailhead is located at the Royal Palm Visitor Center near the Homestead entrance. An early morning or late afternoon visit provides the best wildlife sightings and more comfortable temperatures. The trail is wheelchair accessible and suitable for visitors of all fitness levels.
