Miami is one of the best food cities in America — but you'd never know it eating on Ocean Drive. Here's where actual Miami residents go to eat.
🇨🇺 Cuban Food
Versailles (Little Havana) is the iconic spot, but locals also love La Carreta on Bird Road for late-night Cuban. For the best cubano sandwich, try Sanguich de Miami in Little Havana — they use slow-roasted mojo pork and the bread is perfection. Cafe La Trova elevates Cuban cocktails and small plates into an art form with live music.
🦀 Seafood
Garcia's Seafood Grille on the Miami River has been serving fresh-off-the-boat fish since 1966. No frills, just incredible seafood at fair prices. For upscale, Fiola Miami in Coral Gables does stunning seafood pasta. Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach is touristy but worth it during stone crab season (Oct-May) — go for lunch to avoid the insane dinner wait.
🌶️ Latin & Caribbean
Miami's diversity shines at the table. Jaguar Ceviche in Coconut Grove for Peruvian ceviche. Boia De in Upper Buena Vista for Italian with a modern twist (reservations essential). Kyu in Wynwood for Asian BBQ that's won every award. El Bagel in Wynwood for the best everything bagel you'll ever have.
💰 Cheap Eats
Enriqueta's Sandwich Shop in the Design District — massive portions, cash only, authentic Cuban breakfast. La Moon in Brickell for late-night Colombian arepas. Steve's Pizza in North Miami for greasy, perfect pizza after midnight. Taqueria el Mexicano on SW 8th for tacos that rival anything in LA.
🥂 Brunch
Greenstreet Cafe in Coconut Grove is a classic. Blue Collar in Upper East Side does elevated comfort food brunch. Taurus Beer & Whiskey House in Coconut Grove has a killer weekend brunch with live music.
💡 Rule of thumb: If the restaurant has a guy outside waving menus at you, keep walking. The best spots in Miami don't need to beg for customers.
